A photo-etched add-on set for the Northrop F-5E Tiger II aircraft in 1:48 scale from the Czech firm Eduard raises the level of detail of a build.

Eduard of Obrnice near Most is one of the world's leading makers of photo-etched accessories for plastic modelers. This set in 1:48 scale relates to the Northrop F-5E Tiger II light supersonic fighter and consists of photo-etched metal parts. It is not a model of the airplane but an accessory with which the areas that cannot be produced to true scale in injection-molded plastic are refined and replaced.
The Northrop F-5E Tiger II was a light supersonic fighter powered by two General Electric J85 engines. It came about as a markedly reworked successor to the F-5A Freedom Fighter and in 1970 it won the American competition for an international fighter, which opened the way to extensive export. It flew with dozens of foreign air forces, and in American service it made its name mainly as an adversary in air combat training, where its flying qualities faithfully stood in for small, agile machines. Thanks to low operating costs and simple maintenance it stayed in service with many users for decades.
Photo-etched parts are used wherever the thickness of a plastic part is disproportionately large compared with the real thing, typically in the cockpit, on instrument panels, flaps and small covers. The parts are separated from the fret with a sharp knife on a hard surface, folds are more accurate with a bending tool or at least with a straight blade, and they are usually bonded with super glue applied in a minimal amount. It is a good idea to plan the sequence in advance, as a number of the modifications are made before the fuselage is closed.
