A resin set in 1:48 scale with oxygen tanks and cylinders is meant for modelers who want to fill the empty places in the interior of a model or build a convincing scene around it. The castings have a crisper shape and a cleaner surface than parts an injection mold can offer, and they also suit places where the base kit has no matching part at all. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory to be fitted.
In aviation, compressed oxygen was carried in pressure vessels of various sizes, from large tanks in the technical compartments of an aircraft to smaller portable cylinders used when servicing on the ground. On a model they are exactly the kind of equipment that tells an empty cockpit from an inhabited one and a model standing still from a scene with a story. That is why sets of this type are often bought not just for one model but kept in stock for dioramas.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, finish the cut with a scalpel and level the mating surfaces; wet-sand resin and do so with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Begin painting with a filler primer, then apply the base shade and pull out the bands, valves and mounts with a dark wash. Cylindrical surfaces come alive nicely with a fine lightening of the top edge. You can add the brackets and straps yourself from a strip of aluminum foil or thin metal sheet.
