Masking films for the canopy glazing of the twin-boom Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter in the F, G and H versions, 1:48 scale. The frames are covered from the outside and from the inside, and the shapes are made for the Hasegawa boxing.
Responsibility details are not available.
Around two turbocharged Allison engines Lockheed built a layout that had no counterpart in American service: two tail booms, a central nacelle with the pilot, and the whole armament concentrated on the centerline. Because the barrels do not point obliquely toward a convergence point as on a conventional fighter, the burst holds a straight bundle at any range. German crews used a nickname for the aircraft that referred to its forked tail.
The F, G and H blocks fall into the middle phase of the type's career. The F fought over North Africa; with the G, American pilots carried out a long-range interception in April 1943 in which they shot down the aircraft carrying the commander of the Japanese combined fleet over the Solomon Islands, and the H received more powerful engines with better cooling. In the Pacific the two most successful American fighter pilots scored their highest tallies on this type.
The cockpit has an angular canopy made up of flat panes and sharp frames, where any inaccuracy shows at once. The die-cut shapes hold the edge, and the parts for the inner side make sure the frame will not look translucent from the cockpit.
The aircraft model is sold separately.
