An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter Curtiss P-40C in 1:48 scale from the Korean brand Academy. The model has finely engraved panel lines, a well-worked cockpit and landing gear and optional configurations of some parts. The box usually contains decals for the famous Flying Tigers with the striking shark mouth on the nose. For the exact number of parts and decal schemes, go by the instruction sheet.
The Curtiss P-40 was one of the most widespread American fighters of the early Second World War. Compared with the earlier machines, the P-40C version (Tomahawk in British and Soviet nomenclature) had added armor and self-sealing fuel tanks, which made it heavier but increased its combat resilience. It was powered by an Allison V12 engine and armed with machine guns. The P-40 became best known in the colors of the volunteer Flying Tigers group in China, where its pilots used the strength of the machine in a dive and struck from a distance.
Use thin liquid cement on the plastic parts, and assemble and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Mask the canopy glazing; on many models the canopy can be built slid back. Apply primer before spraying, which will reveal any scratches. Spray the camouflage with an airbrush, and do the shark mouth and the national markings with decals on a gloss varnish with a softener. Finally unify the surface with a matte or satin varnish and add discreet weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
