A set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the P-40E in 1:48 scale. The thin metal gives small elements a definition that injection-molded plastic could not hold.

A set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the P-40E in 1:48 scale. The shape is etched into thin metal sheet, so the part comes out slender and with sharply drawn outlines; in injection-molded plastic it would have to be noticeably thicker because of the mold. Which parts the set contains and where they belong on the model is listed in the manufacturer's instructions.
The P-40E is one of the early wartime versions of the American P-40 fighter, with its armament concentrated in the wing. The fuselage has a solid spine behind the cockpit and the canopy is divided by frames, so it can be told apart from the later N version even at a distance. Under the nose sits the deep radiator scoop, the hallmark of the whole family. It is a machine from the early phase of the Second World War, simple and rugged in design.
First flatten any part that is bent or bowed: lay it between two smooth metal plates and press, do not hammer it. Cut the tabs with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down, otherwise a tooth stays on the outline. Handle the metal with tweezers, not with your fingers, because grease from your hands keeps paint from adhering. Bond with super glue a drop at a time and hold the part until the joint takes. Before spraying, wash the surface, degrease it with alcohol and apply a thin primer.
The package contains the etched parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
