Loaded wheels for a model of the P-51 Mustang in 1:48 scale. The tires have the flattened contact patch that a standing aircraft has.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51 Mustang is an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War, famous above all for the range that let it escort bomber formations all the way to the target and back. On the ground it stands on main landing gear that retracts into the wing, so a viewer at a display case has the wheels directly in front of them.
Replacement wheels for a Mustang model in 1:48 scale in the loaded form. The tire is shaped as the weight of a standing aircraft compresses it: the contact patch is pressed flat. The wheel then touches the surface not at the single point of a perfect circle but over an area, and the model stops looking as if it barely touched the ground. The parts are resin.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a short distance from the part and sand the remainder so that you do not damage the shape of the contact patch. Resin is not polystyrene, so reach for cyanoacrylate glue. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. When gluing, the flattened part of the tire has to point toward the ground and the axle of the wheel has to stay parallel to the surface, otherwise the model stands crooked and the error shows at first glance. Separate the hub from the tire with masking tape stuck down before spraying. The form of the hubs and the tread of the tires differed between Mustang versions, so compare the parts with reference for the machine you are building.
For modelers who are bothered on finished work by wheels that look inflated into a perfect circle. A model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
