The mask set 1:48 P-51B/C Malcolm Hood canopy TFace from Eduard is for precisely covering the glazing while painting a model of the Mustang with the bulged Malcolm Hood canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a set of masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for a model of the P-51B/C Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale with the bulged Malcolm Hood canopy. The masks are cut to the shape of the individual frames and glazed areas, so that spraying no longer means slowly cutting strips of masking tape and hunting for the right frame width. The TFace designation in the name means that the set is prepared for masking the canopy from both sides, outside as well as inside. Inner masking is useful wherever the cockpit frame is meant to be painted when seen from inside as well.
The P-51B and P-51C are the first Mustangs with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine license-built by Packard. It was that engine which gave the aircraft its performance at high altitude and turned it into an escort fighter for the bomber formations over Europe. The original framed canopy limited the view to the rear, however, and British workshops therefore offered the bulged sliding Malcolm Hood. It was carried by the Mustang Mk III of the Royal Air Force and by some American aircraft, and it is among the most easily recognized features of these versions.
For modelers who build the Mustang in 1:48 scale and want a sharp division between the cockpit frame and the glass without cutting by hand. The set itself is not a model and not a kit; it is an accessory for the painting stage.
