The real subject

The North American P-51D was the most numerously built version of the American Mustang fighter. What sets it apart from the older versions at first glance is the teardrop canopy and the cut-down rear fuselage, which gave the pilot a view in practically every direction. Its great range allowed it to escort bomber formations all the way to the target, and it was exactly this ability that made the type famous.

What the set contains

Photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for this type. Metal etched into thin sheet suits everywhere a plastic part gives away by its thickness that it came out of a mold: on the instrument panel, on levers and consoles, on the harness and on small plates. The teardrop canopy moreover lets you see well into the cockpit, so the work you put in is not lost. The extent of the set and the placement of the individual parts are described in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never twist them out. Make the bends on a straight edge in one movement, since repeated rebending tires the metal. Lay the smallest parts out on a piece of adhesive tape turned sticky side up, so that they do not shoot off across the table. Bond them with super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick onto the plastic part; a drop put on the photo-etched part runs into the pattern. Wash and degrease the metal before painting, otherwise the paint will chip during handling. Assemble the cockpit and try it dry while the fuselage halves are still apart, because afterwards you can no longer get inside.
