An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary American North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. Tamiya ranks among the very best makers of plastic models, and this kit is marked by the exact fit of its parts, a finely engraved surface and a friendly build. The box holds the plastic sprues and decals.
The P-51D Mustang was a single-seat American fighter aircraft of the Second World War, powered by a liquid-cooled Packard V12 engine, the licensed version of the British Rolls-Royce Merlin. It was that engine that turned the Mustang into an outstanding long-range escort fighter, able to protect the Allied bombers on their way deep over Germany and back. The D version received the characteristic teardrop canopy with its excellent all-round view and a heavier machine gun armament. The Mustang became one of the most successful and best-known fighters of its day.
Paint and assemble the cockpit before you close the fuselage up. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with thin liquid cement for plastic, and mask the canopy glazing before spraying. Many Mustangs flew in bare polished metal; for a convincing look, lay down a smooth gloss surface and use a metalizer or a technique that imitates polished metal (NMM). Stir the metalizer thoroughly before spraying, apply it to a smooth surface and leave it to the very end, because it is harder to overspray and to mask. Fit the drop tanks last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
