This injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian maker Modelsvit captures the P-51H - the last production version of the legendary Mustang. Modelsvit specializes in interesting subjects neglected elsewhere, and the P-51H is an example: an outwardly familiar aircraft that nevertheless differs from the widespread P-51D in the shape of the fuselage, the landing gear and the tail surfaces.
The P-51H came about through a radical lightening and redrawing of the airframe: it was given a slimmer, lengthened fuselage, a taller rudder and a Packard V-1650-9 engine with water injection, with which it was among the fastest production piston fighters of its day. It never made it into the fighting of the Second World War; after the war it served with the US Air Force and then for many years with Air National Guard units.
Short-run production calls for careful dry fitting of the parts and fine adjustment of the joints. Glue with thin cement for plastic and do not underestimate the base coat; bare metal silver schemes belong to the postwar era - metallic finishes come out best on a smoothly sanded and polished surface, so apply them at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
