A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. It is not an aircraft kit but a refining accessory aimed at the outer surface of the airframe. It is intended for models of the amphibious PBY-5A.
The Consolidated PBY Catalina was an American patrol and rescue flying boat of the Second World War, famous for its long range. The PBY-5A version was amphibious – it had retractable wheeled landing gear added, so it could operate from water and from land alike. It was used for maritime reconnaissance and for search and rescue.
The parts are separated with a sharp knife, bent on an edge or in a bending tool and glued with cyanoacrylate (super glue) or with varnish. On the large airframe of a flying boat the detail of the skin and of the small features stands out once washes are applied. Degrease the metal surfaces before painting.
The accessory is supplied as a separate photo-etched set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
