About product

The real subject

The Sea King HAS.1 is the British anti-submarine version of the Sea King helicopter, which Westland built under license for the Royal Navy. The HAS designation hints at the purpose: it was a machine that both searched for submarines and attacked them, and for that it had its own radar and a dipping sonar. The boat-shaped fuselage and the folding rotor blades betray its naval origin, because the machine had to allow for alighting on the surface as well as for stowage in a ship's hangar. The HAS.1 version stood at the beginning of a long line of British naval Sea Kings.

What the photo-etched set offers

This is a set of photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale. A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet from which the individual parts are separated; the thickness of the material is of the order of tenths of a millimeter, so the parts look considerably finer in scale than their plastic counterparts. The extent of the set and the placement of the individual parts on the model are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than by twisting, otherwise they will bend. Make the bends in the marked groove, ideally in an etch bender or between two blades. Photo-etched parts are glued with super glue or two-part epoxy; cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal. Wash and degrease the fret before painting and apply a primer coat, otherwise the paint cracks and peels off smooth metal. Settle the small parts with tweezers and try the assembly dry first.

Terms of supply

The package contains photo-etched parts. The helicopter model itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
