An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet fighter aircraft Polikarpov I-16 (Type 5) in 1:48 scale from the Zvezda brand. It is a new mold; the package holds plastic sprues, clear parts for the canopy and a decal sheet with period markings. According to the manufacturer, both the early and the later shape of Type 5 can be built from the kit. The exact number of parts and of marking schemes is given on the box of the kit.
The Polikarpov I-16 was one of the first production cantilever low-wing monoplanes with retractable landing gear in the world. Type 5 of the mid-1930s was powered by the M-25 radial engine and reached a speed of around 450 km/h. Small, stubby and agile, the machine formed the backbone of the Soviet fighter force in the second half of the 1930s and saw combat in the Spanish Civil War, at Khalkhin Gol and in the opening battles of the Second World War.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, sand the joints down and even the surface out with a primer. Apply the covering coats and the markings best with an airbrush; the small framed canopy will appreciate masking. Finish the cockpit and the engine area before closing the fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
