A set of accurately pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for the model of the Polish PZL-23 Karas aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes it easier to paint the canopy glazing and other small areas cleanly. The masks are applied directly to the parts, so the framing of the glazing gets sharp straight edges with no laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this type usually also include circular masks for the wheel rims, which make it easier to separate the tire from the rim.
The PZL-23 Karas was a Polish light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft from the mid-1930s with fixed landing gear and a glazed ventral gondola for the observer. In September 1939 it formed the backbone of the bomber force of the Polish Air Force and was used against advancing ground units. Its characteristic framed canopy is exactly the place where masks save the most work.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the point of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully so that no paint runs under them. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat has hardened completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to back the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
