Four R-60 air-to-air guided missiles, AA-8 Aphid in the NATO code, in 1:48 scale. An accessory for the external stores of Soviet and Russian combat aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The R-60 is a Soviet short-range air-to-air guided missile with infrared guidance, introduced into service in the 1970s. In the NATO code it carries the designation AA-8 Aphid. It is among the smallest and lightest missiles of its category, which opened the way to a wide range of carriers: it appears under the wings of MiG and Sukhoi fighters and it is carried by attack helicopters as well. It is intended for close combat, where the pilot fires at a target he has in sight.
The package contains four missiles in 1:48 scale. The finished missiles replace parts from a kit, which tend to be coarse in this scale, and they also serve as accessory armament for models whose kit does not deal with external stores at all. Check the arrangement on a particular aircraft against a photograph of the real thing, because the number and position of the pylons differs from machine to machine.
The parts are not polystyrene, cement for plastic models will not join them, so use super glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the surface. Before painting, wash the missiles in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry. Paint them to one side, mounted on a piece of wire, and glue them to the model only once they are finished. The control fins are thin and break off easily, so work over a tray with a rim and hold them with tweezers.
The set contains four missiles. The model of the aircraft, the pylons, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
