1:48 RAF Pilots Walking captures Royal Air Force pilots in mid-stride, in the gear of the late 1950s and the 1960s.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Pilot Replicas brings figures of Royal Air Force pilots captured in mid-stride. A walking figure fits a scene differently from a standing one: it suggests direction, links two places in the composition and sets an otherwise static parking spot in motion. The 1:48 scale matches the most common size of models of the jet aircraft of that time.
The turn of the 1950s and 1960s was a period of rapid change for the Royal Air Force. Machines of the first postwar generation met substantially more powerful interceptors in service, and the gear of the crews changed with them. Helmets received a hard shell, an oxygen mask became a standard part of the equipment and over water an immersion suit was worn. It is exactly that period dress that makes these figures a clearly datable moment.
With a walking figure the shadow under the foot that is lifting off the ground plays an important part, otherwise the scene looks as if the figure were sliding. Build the immersion suit on a medium darkness and work with light only on the shoulders and thighs. Leave the helmet smooth and glossy so that it contrasts with the matte fabric. The gloves and boots will take a noticeably darker tone than the suit itself.
The figures are unpainted; the paints and a base have to be obtained separately.
