Kits-World put this set together from two Thunderbolts of the 56th Fighter Group that are nearly a year of production apart. The older of them, serial number 42-28543, flew under the code UN-V and had the name Pat painted on the side of the fuselage; it was assigned to the 63rd Fighter Squadron. The second subject is the machine with the serial number 44-21199 and the letters LM-X, that is the markings of the 62nd Squadron.
The two-letter codes are the key to recognizing the squadron in this group: LM belonged to the 62nd, UN to the 63rd and HV to the 61st. From the two letters on the side you can therefore establish a model's assignment without having to look up the serial number. Both schemes belong to the period when the group operated from bases in eastern England and escorted daylight bomber formations over occupied Europe.
The decals have fine registration, so small numbers and technical lettering stay legible even once dry. Before applying, the area is polished with a gloss coat; the film then does not curl and leaves no visible outline. Once the marking has settled, the excess water is drawn off with a paper tissue and the joint is carefully pressed down with a cotton swab.
The set contains no plastic parts or paints and serves as an accessory for a kit of the matching version that you own. The extent of the printing covers the two subjects named, including the national insignia, the fuselage letters and the nose lettering. Anyone who wants representatives of more than one squadron of a single group on the shelf gets both units on a single sheet.
