1:48 Republic P-47D-25RE Thunderbolt TFace canopy frame paint mask are pre-cut Eduard masks for the frames of the bubble canopy, covering the glazing from both sides.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a masking set, not a model of the aircraft. The pre-cut self-adhesive masks follow the shape of the glazing, so the canopy frames come out with a crisp edge and without paint creeping under. The TFace designation means that both the outer and the inner side of the glazing are masked. On a version with a bubble canopy, such as the D-25, that is especially useful: the cockpit is practically wide open from above and the inner side of the frames cannot be hidden.
The Republic P-47D-25-RE is the first production block of the Thunderbolt with a bubble canopy and a cut-down fuselage spine, which at last opened up the pilot's view to the rear. The RE suffix denotes production at the parent factory at Farmingdale. The machine was powered by the mighty Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine with a turbocharger housed in the rear fuselage, thanks to which the Thunderbolt kept its performance at high altitude. The D-25 block also brought an increased internal fuel load, which made it a usable long-range escort fighter.
First degrease the glazing. Press the mask down with a soft tool all round so that no paint creeps under the edge. Spray the inner side of the frames in the interior shade, and the outer side afterwards in camouflage or, on polished aluminum machines, in a metal shade. Lift the masks with tweezers as soon as the paint has set. On polished metal surfaces work carefully so that the tape does not disturb the glossy coat.
