A resin accessory for builders of German Second World War fighters in 1:48 scale. The gunsight is one of the most conspicuous items in an open cockpit: it sits directly in front of the pilot and catches the eye the moment the canopy is slid back. Injection-molded plastic usually covers it with a single coarse part, while a casting can manage a thinner frame and a truer body shape. This is not an aircraft model, but a cockpit detail.
The designation Revi is a contraction of Reflexvisier, meaning reflector gunsight. The 16B type was among the most widely used and was fitted to single-engine fighters as well as to other types. The principle is simple: the optics project a ring of light with an aiming dot onto an angled glass plate in front of the pilot, so he aims without taking his eyes off the target to refocus on a bead sight. The gunsight was mounted above the instrument panel on the windscreen frame and usually had a padded cushion, because in a hard landing it sat right in front of the pilot's face.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a sharp knife or a saw and sand the mark away; do not inhale the resin dust, sand wet and in a well-ventilated room. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Given the size of the part, work over a tray and with tweezers so the casting does not get lost. Apply a primer before painting, then give the gunsight body a flat black and lighten the frame slightly so the edges stand out. The reflector glass can be imitated with a strip of thin clear film fixed with a drop of gloss varnish or with a cyanoacrylate glue for clear parts that does not fog.
