An injection-molded plastic kit of the Romanian fighter IAR-80 in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures the cantilever low-wing all-metal monoplane with a radial engine. Check the actual package contents and the decal options against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The IAR-80 was a Romanian fighter and ground attack aircraft developed by the domestic IAR factory. It was a low-wing all-metal monoplane with a radial engine; when it first flew at the end of the 1930s it was comparable with the contemporary types of its day. Because of production and armament difficulties it entered service only in 1941 and it stayed in the front line until 1944. It is one of the less known but all the more interesting fighters of its era and a rewarding choice for collectors looking for something outside the mainstream.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and sand the seams carefully. Paint and highlight the cockpit interior before you close the fuselage; glue the glazing with a canopy cement so that the plastic does not fog. Romanian schemes carried distinctive national markings and camouflage in green and brown shades with a light underside — after a gloss coat and the decals, bring out the panel lines with a wash and add light wear matching front-line service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
