This set brings resin wheels with faithfully cast tire tread and hub detail, complemented by painting masks. It is not an aircraft model but a detail accessory for refining the landing gear of the Grumman S-2 Tracker carrier anti-submarine aircraft (originally designated S2F) in 1:48 scale. The resin wheels replace the plastic parts from the kit and offer crisper detail of both the tire and the hub.
The S-2 Tracker was the first purpose-designed carrier anti-submarine aircraft of the US Navy. It was powered by a pair of radial engines, its wing folded for stowage on an aircraft carrier, and the machine served from the mid-1950s for many years, with some operators far longer.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to deal with mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks carefully with a saw or snap them off and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The masks supplied speed up a clean separation of the tire from the hub when spraying: stick them on before applying the paint and take them off once it has dried. The tires are best shaded toward a matte black-gray, the hubs according to the particular machine.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
