An injection-molded plastic kit of the Swedish SAAB J 29F fighter in 1:48 scale from Pilot Replicas. The set is among the best models of this aircraft: it offers finely rendered riveting, photo-etched parts and good decals. It captures the final fighter version J 29F with the dogtooth wing and the afterburner.
The SAAB J 29, nicknamed Flygande Tunnan (the Flying Barrel) for its bulbous fuselage, was the first Swedish jet fighter with a swept wing and a very capable machine for its day. The J 29F version received a modified wing with a dogtooth and an engine with an afterburner, which raised the thrust by about a quarter. The Tunnan served with the Swedish Air Force for many years and was also deployed on the UN mission in the Congo.
Paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. Swedish aircraft were finished in natural metal as well as in color camouflage — bring the metal surfaces to life with metallic shades and a gentle emphasis of the panels. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate and apply the decals onto a gloss coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
