A finely detailed resin set of the powerplant for a model of the Swedish trainer and light attack aircraft Saab Sk 60. It is intended for 1:48 scale and replaces the coarsely shaped engine bay from the base kit. Sets of this kind are among the most demanding but also the most rewarding accessories.
The Saab 105, listed in the Swedish Air Force as the Sk 60, was designed as a multipurpose machine: it trained pilots, served for light attack and for liaison flights. It was powered by a pair of small turbofan engines, which in Sweden received the designation RM9. A later upgrade brought a different type of powerplant, so it is precisely the engine that tells you which development stage of the machine you are building. In training units the Sk 60 stayed in service exceptionally long, for several decades.
It is sensible to assemble and paint the engine section before you close the fuselage. Metal surfaces stand out over a smooth gloss base, and piping and wiring are brought out by a thin line of dark paint. Outlets and panel gaps will take a fine wash; exaggerated soiling, by contrast, suppresses the fine detail of the castings. Photographs of the real engine will help you work out where the metal ends and the piping begins.
The aircraft model, the glue and the paints are not contained in the package.
