This is a set of decals, not a kit of the aircraft. The SPACE range from the Czech manufacturer Eduard uses decals with a raised, three-dimensional surface, which once applied come across as detail that stands out, not as a flat printed film. They come into their own mainly in the cockpit, where small elements are at their most numerous.
The base should be smooth, glossy and degreased; on a matte surface, lightened edges appear around the film and spoil the overall impression. The element is lifted off the dampened backing paper with tweezers and fixed with PVA glue, and once it is completely dry the surface is gone over with a matte or semi-gloss varnish. The work calls for calm and good light, because in 1:48 scale the individual elements are small.
The Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 was an Italian three-engine aircraft that served as a bomber and above all as a torpedo bomber. It is distinctive for the hump above the cockpit, to which the crews owed its nickname of the time. In the Mediterranean it was among the most dangerous opponents of Allied convoys, and in some countries it flew long after the end of the war.
