1:48 Sd.Kfz. 139 Marder III, photo-etched cooling grilles is a partial accessory set for a kit you have already bought, not a model in its own right. It deals with one item, but a very visible one: the mesh over the engine cooling. The set is intended for the Tamiya kit.

A partial set from the Czech maker Hauler aimed at the cooling grilles of the engine compartment of the German Sd.Kfz. 139 Marder III tank destroyer. It is an aftermarket accessory for a plastic kit, which you buy separately. The set will be appreciated by a modeler who does not want a full detail set but does want to remove the most conspicuous weakness of a plastic casting. It is based on the dimensions of the Tamiya kit.
The mesh over the radiators is see-through on the real vehicle, and beneath it the fan blades and the shadow of the engine compartment are visible. Injection-molded plastic solves that with a solid plate with an engraved grid, so the result comes across like a sticker. A photo-etched grille has openings cut right through and, seen from above, real depth appears. The effect is strongest on vehicles that are looked at from above in a display case, which with open tank destroyers is practically always.
The most demanding part is preparing the base. The plastic grille usually has to be sanded down or cut out, so that an empty space appears under the new part and the grille is not glued onto a solid area. Blacken the opening with matte black or dark brown before the photo-etch goes on, or light plastic will show through. Glue the grille itself around the edge with a minimum of super glue; any excess would flood the openings. Apply the paint to the grille with an airbrush in thin coats and from a greater distance, as a thick coat seals the openings and the whole effect disappears. At the end a light dusting of pigments is useful, which visually settles the mesh into the rest of the model.
This is an accessory set, not a kit of the vehicle. The Tamiya base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
