A resin set for a plastic Sea Harrier model. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for detail enthusiasts: it replaces the wheel bay area, which in injected kits is usually treated as nothing more than a shallow smooth cavity. The casting brings three-dimensional stiffeners, ribs and suggested runs, which is exactly what is visible from below at first glance on a model standing on its gear. The set is marked for both versions, the FRS.1 and the FA.2.
The Sea Harrier was a carrier aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm with an engine with vectoring nozzles, which allowed a short takeoff from the deck and a vertical landing. Its landing gear is unusual: the main and nose legs sit one behind the other on the fuselage centerline and stability on the ground is provided by outrigger legs at the wingtips. The bays therefore do not have the usual shape recessed into the wing and they are clearly visible on a model standing on its gear.
The work has to be planned in advance, before you glue the fuselage. First wash the castings in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent disappears, otherwise paint will not hold. The original plastic bay usually has to be sanded or cut out - work in small steps and keep checking the fit dry. Do not breathe the dust from cutting resin, and sand wet. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Painting is easiest before fitting: a light base, a dark wash into the recesses, fine chipping with a dry brush and finally a discreet dusting with pigment. Mask the finished bays with damp cotton wool or masking putty before you spray the exterior camouflage.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package.
