An Art Scale masking set for a model of the Supermarine Seafire F.XVII from the Airfix kit in 1:48 scale. The one-sided designation means that the set deals with one side of the glazing, and self adhesive that the masks are self-adhesive. The double-sided version of the same range differs from this one precisely in adding the other side of the canopy as well.
Degrease the glass first and let it dry out completely, otherwise the mask will not adhere. Carry the pieces with tweezers and press them down above all at the edges of the frames. Apply the paint in several thin coats, because a heavy wet coat readily runs under the edge of the mask. Take it off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an angle away from the frame.
The Seafire was the naval version of the Spitfire adapted for service on aircraft carriers. The late F.XVII version was powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine and, against the early machines, it received strengthened landing gear that stood up better to hard arrivals on deck. It served with the Fleet Air Arm even after the Second World War. For a modeler it is interesting in that it completes the familiar silhouette of the Spitfire with purely naval features.
