The package holds self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the glazing frames of a Si 204D model in 1:48 scale. The set holds no photo-etched or resin parts; its only job is to cover the glass during painting and let the framing come out precisely. On the Siebel, which has a glazed nose with a dense network of frames, it is one of the most appreciated accessories of all: cutting that many narrow strips by hand tends to end in uneven widths and paint running underneath.
The masks are cut from fine kabuki-type paper tape. That follows a curve well and, once the paint is on, can be lifted with no adhesive residue and with no risk of tearing the paint away. The result is frames of equal width across the whole glazed area, which on this type of aircraft is exactly what decides the final impression of the model.
The Siebel Si 204D was a twin-engine aircraft with a glazed nose, used above all for training and transport duties. After the war its production continued in Czechoslovakia, where machines derived from the Si 204 served for many years in crew training and in transport. The extensive glazing is its most conspicuous feature and at the same time the most demanding one for a modeler.
Wash the clear parts and let them dry so that no grease is left on them. Transfer the masks with tweezers and press them home with a toothpick, especially in the corners and on the curves. Apply thin coats of paint, otherwise a step will form at the edge. Before the exterior shade it pays to spray the frames with the interior color. Lift the masks while the paint is merely dry.
The set holds masks only. The model, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
