Cut masks for the canopy glazing of the twin-engine Siebel Si 204D in 1:48 scale, adapted to the Special Hobby kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Siebel Si 204 started out as a light transport aircraft for a handful of passengers, but it was training that made its name. The D version gave up the stepped cockpit and replaced it with a continuous glazed nose, from which trainees, navigators and future bomb aimers had a view in every direction. The production geography of the type is interesting too: most of the airframes came off lines outside Germany, among others in works in Bohemia and Moravia, thanks to which the design survived the war and started up again under a new name.
The glazing of the nose is made up of dozens of small panes separated by narrow frames. Outlining them with a brush means hours of painstaking work, and a single slip of the hand is harder to put right than to apply. Pre-cut film turns the whole operation into a few minutes of sticking: you lay a piece on a pane, press it against the frame with a fingernail and cover the rest of the fuselage with ordinary tape.
Do not touch the clear part with your fingers before gluing and avoid cyanoacrylate glues, whose fumes fog the glass for good. Lift the template with the tip of a scalpel as soon as the paint has lost its shine. In a fully cured finish the film breaks away and takes the edge of the frame with it. The set contains masks only; the clear part is included in the kit.
