An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Mi-24P attack helicopter, a later cannon-armed version of the Hind family. The model in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Zvezda has a richly broken-up surface, a glazed pilots' cockpit, a well worked-out rotor head and extensive underwing armament on the pylons of the stub wings. The recognition feature of this version is the fixed twin-barrel 30 mm cannon placed on the right side of the fuselage - that is what sets it apart from the early versions with a movable gun turret under the nose.
The Mi-24P is a heavily armored attack helicopter which, as one of the few, combines strong fire support with the ability to carry a small landing party - hence the nickname flying tank. The P version (from the Russian pushechny, that is cannon-armed) came about at the beginning of the 1980s, when a powerful fixed twin-barrel 30 mm cannon replaced the movable turret. It was powered by two turboshaft engines and it has been used in a whole range of conflicts from the 1980s to the present.
Glue the plastic with a liquid modeling cement. Finish and paint the cockpit and the cabin interior before you close the fuselage. Mask the glazing before spraying and deal with the rotor blades and the landing gear at the end. An airbrush works well for Soviet and Russian camouflage schemes; bring out the rivets and the panel lines with washes and add dust pigments for realistic weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
