The Soviet SSh-39/40 helmet in 1:48 scale, in the version marked as detail, is an accessory for figures, not a model on its own. The manufacturer makes it alongside a basic version of the same helmet.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for figures in 1:48 scale, not a kit of a model. It contains a casting of the Soviet SSh-39 and SSh-40 pattern steel helmet in the version set apart by the word detail; a basic version of the same helmet is a separate item. The casting suits the head of a figure, hanging from the equipment, and a piece set down loose on the base of a scene.
The SSh-39 pattern helmet has a smooth domed bowl with a slightly drawn-out comb and an edge that runs evenly all the way round with no marked peak. The SSh-40 pattern has a shell practically identical in outer shape; what was reworked was the liner, held by three rivets passing through the shell. The rivets are the most reliable way of telling the two patterns apart, but in a small scale they are already on the edge of legibility, which is why both patterns are given together on accessories.
Separate the casting from the casting block with a fine saw, level the cut surface with a file and try the fit dry. Glue resin parts with cyanoacrylate glue: cement for plastic does not hold on them. Before painting, wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, so that remains of mold release agent do not stop the paint from adhering. Apply a thin coat of primer, then the matte shade, and underline the edge of the helmet with a dark wash. Fine details on the surface are pulled out with a careful drybrush; a thick coat of paint, by contrast, fills them in at this scale and the advantage of the detail version is lost.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
