A diorama accessory: portable insulated containers in which hot food was brought to the units from the field kitchen. It is not a model of equipment nor a kit but small props that are added to a scene already built. Hauler is a Czech maker of aftermarket accessories and diorama elements.
A portable thermos can for food is a simple double-walled drum with a lid and straps that keeps food hot for the time of the journey. The Soviet army used them across the whole breadth of the service, from the back areas to the forward positions, and the same principle lasted long after the Second World War. In a diorama they are rewarding precisely because they explain unmistakably what is going on in the scene: it is not combat but the everyday running of a unit.
Deburr the parts and check that they sit flat; small containers make a poor impression when they stand crooked. Once they have been degreased and primed, it pays to spray a rather muted shade, because a new saturated green looks toylike on a small area. The metallic character is well pulled out by the chipping technique with a thin brush along the edges and on the lid, which is touched most, and by fine rubbing with graphite or a pigment with a metallic sheen. Finally darken the seams with a wash and add a little dust. Thermos cans look best in a small group rather than singly, or on the fender of a vehicle or in the hands of a figure.
