A set of the LööK range in 1:48 scale for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V fighter. It is not a kit but a finished cockpit accessory: a color resin instrument panel that is glued in place of the plastic part from the kit. That takes away the most laborious part of painting a cockpit — the dials and the lettering are already printed. Sets of this range cover instrument panels and are usually completed with steel seat belts. The maker is the Czech brand Eduard from Obrnice near Most.
The Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerous variant of this fighter in the first half of the Second World War. It came about by combining the airframe of the preceding variant with the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 series engine. It served in many forms — with the standard wing, with the clipped wing and in the tropical fit with a dust filter under the nose. The instrument panel of a Spitfire is clearly visible under the hinged canopy and the side door, which is why cockpit detail pays off more on this type than on aircraft with a deeply recessed cockpit.
Wash the resin part first in warm water with detergent so that the remains of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface wet with abrasive paper, using respiratory protection. Do not spray over the printed surface and do not run thinner across it. Dry-fit it before gluing — the whole molded lug usually has to be sanded off the plastic original. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Finish the cockpit before the fuselage halves are joined; after that you can no longer reach into it.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
