Eduard 1:48 Spitfire Mk.I wheels is a set of resin wheels for Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I models, with a fine tread pattern and crisply rendered rims.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech maker Eduard is not an aircraft kit but a replacement part in 1:48 scale. Wheels are one of the places where the difference between a plastic part and a resin casting shows at first glance: gone is the parting line seam that runs straight across the tread and the rim and that is very hard to sand off a plastic wheel.
The castings have a legible tire tread pattern, clearly rendered spokes and rim hub and a clean transition between the rubber and the disc, which makes separating the two colors easier. Resin holds sharp edges better than injection-molded plastic, so once painted the model looks more convincing in scale.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was a British fighter that entered service in 1938 and became famous during the Battle of Britain. It was powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, and its elliptical wing is one of the best known silhouettes in aviation history. The narrow-track landing gear with smaller wheels is characteristic of the earlier Spitfire versions.
Cut the castings off with a fine-toothed saw, sand the seating face down and wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); apply a primer before painting. Do not spray the tire pure black, as a very dark gray with a faint dusty cast looks better in scale. The rim is most easily separated with a circular mask or by carefully pressing tape into the engraved line at the transition. A fine dust pigment on the contact patch helps at the end.
This is an accessory for building the model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
