The 1:48 Spitfire Mk.I wheels (with covers) and paint masks set from the maker Aires holds resin wheels with covered hubs for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale and masks for painting them. It is an accessory to a kit, not an airplane model.

Early Spitfires are told from later machines among other things by their wheels, whose hubs were covered by smooth covers. It is precisely this form that the cast set from Aires brings: wheels with covers in an exact shape, with no parting line across the tread and with no need to add anything further. The enclosed masks then make it possible to separate the shade of the tire from the cover without laborious outlining with a brush. The package holds this accessory alone; the model of the airplane has to be your own.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British fighter with an elliptical wing, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. It was entering service in the second half of the 1930s, and in 1940 it formed, together with Hurricanes, the basis of the fighter defense of Britain. The early machines went through a number of partial changes within a short time, from the propeller through the glazing of the canopy to the armament, so when building a particular airplane it is advisable to keep to a photograph of the machine. Covered wheels are among the details that capture the early version well.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, or the paint will not hold on release agent. Cut the casting block off with a disc and polish the surface with a sanding sponge. Spray on a base coat, then the shade of the tire, stick the masks onto the hub covers and only then spray the shade of the cover. Always press a mask down firmly around the circumference, or the paint will run under it. Choose dark gray for the tire, as pure black looks flat in scale. Finally add dust pigment into the pattern and glue the wheels onto the landing gear legs with super glue.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
