A masking set in 1:48 scale for spraying the camouflage fields on a Spitfire Mk.II, in the pattern designated by the letter G. The name ties it to the Eduard 11146 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Camouflage fields are the areas by which two covering shades are divided on the upper surface of an airframe. Their shape is not accidental; on British fighters of the Second World War period it followed a prescribed pattern, and machines differed in which form of it they carried. This set brings finished masks for the pattern designated by the letter G on a Spitfire Mk.II, so the boundary between the shades does not have to be traced out or cut from tape.
The name gives 1:48 scale and the Eduard 11146 kit, to whose parts the masks are shaped. On a model from another manufacturer or in another scale the shapes therefore need not fit. The set is a masking set and concerns the camouflage scheme of one particular machine connected with the pilot named in the name. The arrangement of the fields and the order of the shades are described by the instructions enclosed with the set.
The masks are applied onto the dried first shade, that is still before the second color is sprayed, never after it. The base must be smooth and free of dust, so that the mask bears along the whole boundary. Spray at right angles and in thin coats, otherwise the paint will run under the edge. If you want a soft transition instead of a sharp edge, lift the mask slightly along its perimeter and leave a narrow gap under it. Take the masks off while the paint is only dry to the touch; from a fully cured finish you will tear the edge away.
A masking set with instructions is supplied. The kit of the aircraft, paints and varnish are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
