The Supermarine Spitfire was among the most iconic British fighters of the Second World War. The Mk.IX version was introduced in 1942 as an answer to the appearance of the Fw 190, which outclassed the earlier Spitfire Mk.Vs. The key to its performance was the two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series engine, which markedly raised performance at high altitude; a longer nose and a four-blade propeller came with it. The universal C wing allowed various combinations of machine guns and cannons. The Mk.IX became one of the most widespread and most successful versions of the Spitfire and served on many fronts.
Cut the parts off the sprues and glue them with a liquid model cement for plastic. Paint and accent the richly detailed cockpit before closing the fuselage and mask the clear canopy while spraying. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss coat and accent the panel lines and the riveting with a wash. British fighters usually carried two-color upper camouflage and undersides in a light shade, so add wear appropriate to the service.
