The set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard holds a pair of cast resin main landing gear wheels for Spitfire models in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of an airplane but an aftermarket detail accessory that replaces the plastic wheels from the original kit with a more faithful casting. The wheel is made up of a rim with a four-spoke hub and a tire with a period tread pattern. A self-adhesive masking template for easy painting of the hubs tends to be part of the package as well.
The resin wheels offer a crisper detail of the hub, the valve and the sidewall of the tire than injection-molded plastic can manage. The precisely rendered tread pattern and the chance to suggest the flattening where it sits on the ground add to the conviction of a model. The set is intended as a direct replacement of the parts, usually without the need for bigger adjustments.
First wash the parts clean of the remains of the mold release agent in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting blocks off carefully with a saw or a cutter and sand the surfaces with protection of the airways. Glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Use the enclosed masks before painting and paint the hub and the tire separately.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin detail set. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
