Photo-etched access ladders for the Hawker Hunter and Harrier in 1:48 scale from Brengun. This is an accessory to a kit or a diorama, not an airplane model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched metal parts from which to assemble the access ladders used when a pilot climbs into the cockpit. It is not a part of the aircraft but a separate piece of ground equipment that is built on its own and simply stood beside a model. In a finished scene it does what no paint job can: it gives the aircraft scale and suggests that the machine is parked and being serviced.
A ladder is a structure of thin sections and flat steps. If it were cast in plastic, the rungs would have to be several times thicker than the scale allows and the whole would look coarse. Photo-etching makes it possible to produce steps with a non-slip pressing and side members in a real thickness, and the finished ladder then stands up to close inspection and to a photograph.
Before building, look through the instructions and work out which parts belong to which type of aircraft; the set covers two different machines and the ladders differ in shape and in height. Make the bends exactly along the marked score line, best in a bending tool. Assembly is easier on a piece of double-sided tape, which holds a part in place. Solder the joints or glue them with super glue in minute drops. Degrease the finished ladder, spray a base coat and paint it separately from the aircraft; ground equipment tends to be knocked about, so chipped edges and a light application of dust on the steps come in handy.
The accessory set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
