Photo-etched access ladders for the MiG-15 and MiG-17 in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Brengun hold two patterns. It is an accessory to a finished model, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds photo-etched access ladders to the cockpit of the Soviet MiG-15 and MiG-17 jet fighters in 1:48 scale, in two patterns. It is an aftermarket accessory: it is bought to go with a model you already have built or under construction, and it is used mainly on models displayed with the cockpit canopy open or set in an airfield scene.
The cockpit of a fighter is higher above the ground than photographs suggest, and ground crew could not reach it without a portable ladder. A ladder leaning against the side of the fuselage is therefore one of the most typical features of airfield operations, and on a diorama it plays two roles at once: it gives the scene scale and it naturally leads a viewer's eye to the open cockpit, that is to where most of the work shows. Two variants in one set also let you build two models side by side without their looking repetitive.
A photo-etched ladder is made up of long narrow parts that are easy to twist by accident. Separate them with a scalpel against a hard surface and bend them in a photo-etch bending tool, not between your fingers. If the sheet springs and will not hold its shape, a brief anneal over a flame helps: the metal softens and the bend then stays. Degrease the sheet with alcohol before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal. A fine rub of the edges comes in handy at the end, because it was precisely the rungs of a ladder that wore most in service.
This is an accessory to a model, not an aircraft kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
