Photo-etched parts for the Steyr 1500A/01

The set holds photo-etched parts for the model of the Steyr 1500A/01 vehicle in 1:48 scale. According to the name it is cut for the Tamiya kit, so the parts follow the shapes of that particular model and you do not have to spend time adjusting them. Photo-etch manages what injection-molded plastic cannot: thin sheet parts come out in an honest thickness, grilles really are see-through, and small grab handles and loops have sharp edges.

The real subject

The Steyr 1500A was a German light truck with all-wheel drive from the Second World War period, built at the Steyr works in Austria. The additional designation 1500A/01 distinguishes a form within the range. Vehicles of this class were used to carry both people and loads and appear in photographs from every front, so they suit a display area on their own as well as as an escort for larger vehicles.

How to work with photo-etch

• separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with scissors
• run the bends along the scored line, preferably in a bender or against a steel ruler
• glue with super glue, applied in drops on the tip of a wire
• degrease the surfaces before painting and use a base coat for metal
• lay the small parts out on a light surface; on a dark one they are easily lost
