A photo-etched fret from the Czech maker Hauler for the model of the StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in its early production form, 1:48 scale. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and replaces selected plastic parts with thin metal. It is an accessory, not a kit.
The StuG III came about as a self-propelled gun on the chassis of the Pz. III medium tank. It had no rotating turret; the armament was mounted in a fixed fighting superstructure, which gave the vehicle a low silhouette. The Ausf. G version was the most numerously built variant and carried a 75 mm gun with a long barrel. The early production batches differ from the later ones in details of the fighting superstructure, in the execution of the gun shield and in the fitting of protective items. It is precisely these differences that determine which detail set belongs to a model.
Bend long straight parts in a bender along their whole length at once, or the edge will ripple. Shorter parts can be bent between two scalpel blades laid on a surface. Degrease the whole fret before gluing and let it dry; grease from your fingers is the most common cause of paint not holding on photo-etch. Dose the glue with a pin; any excess turns white. Paint the metal parts over a thin primer and unify the seams between metal and plastic with a wash, so that the model does not look assembled from pieces.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
