A basic photo-etched set for the SU-152 self-propelled gun in 1:48 scale is an accessory for a plastic kit you have already bought, not a model. It covers the most visible external detail of the hull with one sheet of photo-etch.

A basic set is the entry level of improvement: it holds a cross section of the most useful detail of the outside without asking the modeler for an extensive rebuild. Typically these are the brackets, the grab handles, the flanges, the eyes and the sheet-metal elements on the hull, which a plastic molding manages only in a coarse form. The set from the Czech maker Hauler is fitted to the Bronco plastic kit; in itself it is neither a kit nor a model. Anyone who wants to go further can add specialized sets for the individual areas to it.
The SU-152 was a Soviet heavy self-propelled gun of 1943, built on the chassis of the KV heavy tank. In a fixed superstructure it carried a 152 mm gun-howitzer, that is, a weapon originally meant for the artillery. A shell weighing tens of kilograms could knock out even heavily armored targets, albeit more by shock and by wrecking the structure than by penetration. The vehicle first came into its own in the fighting in the summer of 1943 and became the forerunner of the later self-propelled guns on the chassis of the IS type.
With a basic set we recommend going through the instructions before the build begins and noting which plastic parts will not be used - the photo-etched replacements are often fitted in their place, and cutting them off a finished hull later is unpleasant. Glue large flat parts spot by spot around the edge, so that they do not go wavy. A heavy self-propelled gun is a rewarding subject for marked weathering: dust on the upper surface, greasy streaks around the exhausts and paint worn off the edges the crew commonly touched.
This is an accessory set for a kit you have already bought. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
