An accessory set for the engine section of the SU-152 self-propelled gun in 1:48 scale is meant for completing a plastic kit you have already bought, not for building on its own. It concentrates on the detail of the rear of the hull around the power unit.

On models of tracked equipment the rear part of the hull tends to be the least worked out, and yet it is well in view in a display case. The set from the Czech maker Hauler aims exactly there: it adds the detail around the power unit and the cooling that injection-molded plastic deals with by suggestion alone. It is neither a kit nor a finished model - the parts are fitted to the Bronco plastic kit. The set combines well with the basic set and with the set of grilles for the same vehicle.
The SU-152 was a Soviet heavy self-propelled gun introduced in 1943 on the chassis of the KV heavy tank. The power unit was placed in the rear of the hull and drove the sprockets through a gearbox. The engine compartment called for an extensive cooling system, covers, grilles and access hatches, which the crew and the technicians opened during maintenance. It is precisely this area that in period photographs tends to be grimy, oily and scuffed - and it therefore suits a model to work it up more carefully than the rest.
Decide in advance whether you will build the rear area closed or with the covers folded open. In the second case it makes sense to add details of your own from wire and plastic sections as well, because an open compartment exposes what the kit lacks. Glue the parts one after another and let each joint dry, so that the previous one does not come loose. The painting is best managed before the rear is closed up. An oil wash, dark running around the seams and light greasy streaks beneath the hatches then suit the whole area.
This is an accessory set for a kit you have already bought. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
