A set of pre-cut kabuki masks aimed at one particular part of a 1:48 model of the carrier-borne Su-27K from the manufacturer Minibase, the engine exhaust nozzles. The designation of parts G28 in the name points to the particular parts of the kit the masks are cut for; New Ware also makes a variant for parts G9, so check which nozzles you are building on your own model before you buy. It is neither an aircraft model nor a resin replacement for the nozzles, but a masking accessory.
The Su-27K is the carrier-borne variant of the Su-27, later designated Su-33. It has folding wings and tailplanes, a pair of canard foreplanes, strengthened landing gear and an arrestor hook for landing on an aircraft carrier. On the real aircraft the exhaust nozzles of both engines are made up of an assembly of movable segments. Those segmented nozzles are among the places where a metal shade is usually combined with darker bands on the model, and where masking by hand is at its most awkward.
The masks are die-cut on a carrier film. Lift the individual strips with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and stick them onto the clean, degreased surface of the nozzle. On curved surfaces press the edges down with a toothpick and work in short sections so that the tape does not wrinkle. Spray the paint in thin coats at lower pressure. Metal shades have a fine pigment that settles to the bottom of the jar, so stir them well before spraying and lay them on a smooth undercoat. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried, while the layer is still flexible.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
