A partial masking set in 1:48 scale from New Ware, focused exclusively on the engine nozzles. It is neither a kit nor a model of the aircraft, and it does not replace a complete masking set for the cockpit either. It is an accessory for painting one particular place on a model, the place that is the most demanding in color terms on Soviet and Russian machinery: the plates of the nozzles tend to have a different metallic shade and are divided into narrow segments whose masking by hand is slow. The templates are cut from Japanese kabuki paper, that is, from thin washi paper with a gentle adhesive, which bends readily around cylindrical shapes.
The set is cut for the nozzle parts marked G9. The manufacturer also offers a variant for parts with a different marking, because the nozzles differ between boxings.
The Su-33 is a carrier fighter derived from the Su-27, adapted for operation from a ship's deck, with folding wings, a strengthened landing gear and an arrestor hook. The two engines are housed in separate nacelles at the ends of the flat center fuselage, so the nozzles are clearly visible on a model from the side as well as from behind and their rendering strongly affects the final impression.
Glue the nozzle parts together and clean them up first, and only then mask. Lay the paper around a cylindrical surface gradually and press the edge down with a stick. Spray metallic shades onto a smooth, well prepared base and apply them at the end of the painting, because they are harder to spray over and take further masking badly. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried.
This is a partial accessory for painting, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package. Check before you buy that the set matches the nozzle parts in your kit.
