About product

Steel seat belts for the Su-57 in 1:48 scale from Eduard

The set brings etched seat belts made from thin stainless sheet, on which the color scheme is printed already during manufacture. It is an accessory for the modeler who is building a model of the Su-57 fighter in 1:48 scale and wants to replace the plastic or decal belts in the cockpit with a part of the real thickness of a strap. Eduard is a Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most, and etched sets belong to its main product range. The set does not make up a model by itself.

The real subject

The Su-57 is a single-seat twin-engined fifth-generation fighter of Russian design with internal weapons bays in the fuselage. The pilot sits on an ejection seat equipped with a multi-point harness with shoulder and lap straps and a central buckle. Those are exactly what the set renders. In 1:48 scale the cockpit is clearly visible once the canopy is opened up, and the belts are among the first details a viewer notices.

Usage and painting tips

What decides is the way you separate the part from the fret. Never break it off, as the sheet twists and the printed color cracks. Lay the fret on a hard smooth surface, ideally glass or a steel plate, and cut the part through with perpendicular pressure from a sharp scalpel; photo-etch scissors are more comfortable. Then true up the remnant of the tab with a fine needle file, drawing away from the part, never toward it. Stainless steel is springier than brass, so it holds its shape after bending and with it you can faithfully imitate the sag of a strap over the edge of the seat or a loose end lying on the cushion. It is bonded with a small drop of super glue applied with a pin, not straight from the bottle. Do not cover the printed color with a thick layer of varnish, as a fine matte overspray to unify the sheen is enough, and possibly a dark wash into the buckles. Beware of aggressive solvents, which can attack the print.

Who the set is for

  • modelers who are building the Su-57 in 1:48 scale and want a credibly equipped cockpit
  • beginners at working with photo-etch, as belts are the ideal first etched part
  • anyone bothered by thick plastic straps molded in one piece with the seat
  • builders who want the cockpit finished quickly and without painting

This is an accessory set, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.

FAQ

It is not. It is an etched accessory for the cockpit, which replaces the seat belts. The model itself you have to obtain separately.

No. The color scheme is printed on already in production. We recommend only a light matte overspray to unify the sheen and possibly a dark wash into the buckles.

Super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate, applied in small drops with a pin. Modeling cement for plastic does not hold on metal.

On a hard smooth surface with perpendicular pressure from a scalpel, or with photo-etch scissors. Breaking them off twists the sheet and the printed color cracks.
