Montex 1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I is a masking set for both sides of the canopy framing, with masks for national insignia added. An accessory for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The self-adhesive masks are cut to the shape of the frames of the cockpit canopy, the windscreen and the rear fairing, and according to the name masks for national insignia belong with them. The set holds no model and no model parts — it is an accessory for a kit you already own. It pays off on the early Spitfire in particular: the framing of the canopy is delicate and it is hard to run hand-cut tape straight along it.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British fighter, with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and an elliptical wing. It was powered by a supercharged V12, the armament consisted of machine guns in the wing, and the machines were used in the first years of the war in the defense of British airspace. Early examples at first had a two-blade wooden propeller, later a metal variable-pitch one.
Removal is the step where the result can be spoiled. Let the finish set, but do not wait several days — fully cured paint flakes at the edge of a mask. Lift a corner with the point of a scalpel, take hold of it with tweezers and pull slowly at a sharp angle back over the mask, not straight up. If the finish does lift, run a scalpel along the edge before you go on.
The package holds masking templates only. The model, paints and decals are not part of it.
