The second part of a two-part decal line from the manufacturer Xtradecal in 1:48 scale, devoted to early Spitfires of the Mk.I version in their 1940 form. The two parts form a pair with content of their own, so they can be bought together or separately. The sheet is supplementary markings for a finished painted model, not a kit; plastic, paints and glue are not in the package.
The early Spitfires of 1940 had an all-metal stressed-skin structure with an elliptical wing, the Merlin III engine and eight 7.7 mm machine guns. The upper surfaces wore matte two-color camouflage, while the underside went through several changes of color standard during the year. Besides the national roundels and the code letters, a whole range of small technical lettering, markings for the ground crew and markings at the fuel filler points appeared on the machines.
The transparent carrier film usually reaches some way beyond the printed area, and it is precisely its edge that tends to show once dry. Before you soak the decal, trim it with a sharp scalpel as close to the print as possible, around the circumference on round markings and around each letter separately on code letters, if the sheet allows. With individual letters this also lets you adjust the spacing between the characters exactly to a period photograph. Less film means less work with the softener and a smaller risk of silvering.
This is a standalone decal sheet, that is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
