A detailing set of turned metal barrels, not a ship kit. According to the name it holds eight 102 mm barrels, four of 40 mm and four of 20 mm, that is, the complete barrel armament of the Polish destroyer ORP Blyskawica in her wartime form. Aber is a Polish maker specializing in turned metal parts and photo-etched brass; in the small naval scale of 1:400 the difference from plastic is especially marked, because plastic barrels here are necessarily far too thick and often warped.
ORP Blyskawica was a destroyer of the Polish Navy which spent the Second World War alongside the Allied formations and is among the best known ships in Polish naval history. She was rearmed during the war: the original armament gave way to 102 mm dual-purpose guns in twin mounts, supplemented by anti-aircraft weapons of 40 mm and 20 mm. It is this later configuration that the contents of the set match. The ship has survived and is a museum vessel today, which makes her a rewarding and frequently built subject.
Take the miniature barrels out of the packaging over a surface and work with fine-tipped tweezers; in this scale a lost part is very hard to find. Carefully open up the holes in the plastic mounts to the diameter needed with a micro drill and glue the barrels in with cyanoacrylate applied on a pin, so that there is no excess. Degrease the metal and spray it with a primer, and only then paint it in the shade of the ship's armament. Check the alignment of the barrels in each twin mount from above, ideally under a magnifier.
A detailing set, not a complete model of the ship. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
